Body Shape — Both versions feature the S-style body design loosely based on PRS’ discontinued DC3 guitar. Everything from the belly-cut, to the neck heel joint and the ergonomic contour on the lower cutaway are the same.
Maple Neck — Synonymous with bolt-on guitars and known for its bright tonal character, PRS has ensured that their new SE Silver Sky’s neck wood adheres to the original spec.
Original ‘635JM’ Carve — The new SE model has the same custom neck shape used for Mayer’s USA Silver Sky; offering a comfy feel that lies somewhere between vintage ‘C’ and ‘D’ profiles. According to Lee Anderton, PRS “nailed” it!
25.5″ Scale Length — Provides optimal string tension; letting you dig in for funky “New Light”-style chords while allowing for soulful, expressive string bends.
Rosewood Fingerboard — This luxurious, silky material features on both models and ultimately enhances mid-range warmth. This was a design choice inspired from one of Mayer’s favourite mid-’60s guitars.
Silver Nickel Alloy Frets — The same fret-wire has been used for both Silver Sky models, although the SE’s frets are just slightly wider and not as tall as those on the USA (0.094 inches wide instead of 0.90 inches, 0.047 inches tall instead of 0.055 inches).
Small Bird Inlays — PRS’ trademark inlays, adored for their elegance, are available on the USA Silver Sky and the more accessible SE model.
Pickup Configuration & Controls — The triple single-coil configuration remains the same for the SE version, along with the master volume knob, two tone controls and flexible 5-way blade pickup switch.
Knobs & Jack Plates — The unique control knobs and jack plate design from the Core Silver Sky have been used for the affordable SE model too.
Included PRS Gig Bag — Both models come with a gig bag. The Core version ships with a more premium padded soft case in black, but the grey SE gig bag also offers solid protection. There’s really not much to differentiate them!
